.Why help anyone else in life?

It is altruism, among other human attributes which sets us apart from beasts in the field. That said, some of them seem to help each other without seeking immediate reciprocation. Removing fleas etc might be a good example.

Residents within the Ross-on-Wye district are already participating in "tools altruism - level 1" by donating tools to this worthy cause. If you have not done so, return to the home page to see where tools may be left.

It is not a difficult thing to do to move to the next level of altruism - come and buy some tools. The summer months enable us to do some gardening or DIY and what bettter way to improve your stock of tools than buy some at low prices?

"Ah!" you say. "I will be asked to be involved in the activity." Far from it. The team will be encouraged by your interest and will not apply any pressure.

"But ..." you reply. "I will see the vast stock of tools to be refurbished and feel guilty if I don't offer to help." We can't predict what will happen but you will not be pushed in any way.

Coming to investigate level 3 with a view to possibly helping will cost nothing and could be very interesting. We have all created our own comfort zones within UK life and there's never enough time to consider those who live far away. To pick up a brace and bit or a saw and imagine it the hands of anyone who wants to improve his or her life can be thought-provoking. Taking the next step yourself is not such a daunting prospect.

Being involved in a project which enables those less fortunate than us to carve out a future for themselves surely is worth considering. The tools that arrive in Tanzania do that very effectively.
